Stage 2: Applying for a Mortgage

You’ve now found your ideal home and have given your estate agent your Decision in Principal document which should hopefully mean the house will be removed from the market. This is now where you begin the process of filling out a formal application for the mortgage with your lender. This appointment will require documents such as payslips, P60, proof of address and ID that will all be needed alongside your mortgage application.

At this stage it is sensible to consider the need for life and critical illness cover since your mortgage is more than likely the largest credit commitment you will ever take. Your mortgage advisor will talk you through your options for this.

Once this process has finished and your mortgage is accepted, you can now move in to the property and begin your life in your new home!
