At Hanley Economic, we believe in making a difference—not just in financial services, but in the community we serve. As part of our 170-day challenge, we’ve committed to giving back through voluntary work, supporting charities and initiatives that align with our values. Recently, our teams dedicated time to two incredible organisations: the YMCA and Our Space, both of which provide invaluable services to local people. Through these social impact initiatives, we are helping to build stronger communities.
A Day of Warmth and Nourishment at the YMCA
Our first voluntary day took us to the YMCA, where we had the privilege of hosting and preparing a community meal. The YMCA plays a crucial role in providing opportunities to people so they can reach their full potential, and we were honoured to contribute to their mission. Our team rolled up their sleeves in the kitchen, preparing a delicious meal to serve to members of the community.
Beyond just cooking, we had the chance to sit down and chat with those attending the meal, hearing their stories and sharing a moment of connection. The experience was truly humbling, reinforcing the importance of compassion and community spirit. Seeing the smiles and gratitude from those we served reminded us why local community support and volunteer-driven initiatives matter.
Greener Spaces and Brighter Futures at Our Space
For our second voluntary day, we swapped our office attire for gardening gloves and headed to Our Space, a charity dedicated to providing play activities and facilities for disabled children and providing support to their families. Our mission for the day? Tending to the gardens and completing essential maintenance tasks to keep the space welcoming and accessible.
From weeding and pruning to painting and repairs, our team worked hard to enhance the environment for those who rely on Our Space for therapeutic and recreational activities. The transformation by the end of the day was incredibly rewarding, and knowing that our efforts will benefit visitors for months to come made every moment worthwhile. This is just one example of our commitment to local charity partnerships and community investment projects that create real change.

A Challenge That’s Changing Lives
Our 170-day challenge is more than just a corporate initiative—it’s a commitment to the people and places that make our community special. Volunteering with the YMCA and Our Space has been a heart-warming experience, and we’re excited to continue supporting other fantastic organisations in the coming months through community impact through action.
Vicki Hardie, Community Engagement Officer at Hanley Economic, shared her thoughts on the initiative:
“Seeing our colleagues come together to support local charities is truly inspiring. The impact of our 170-day challenge extends beyond the work we do - it’s about the connections we build, the lives we touch, and the sense of community we strengthen. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication our team has shown, and I look forward to seeing how we continue to make a difference.”
A huge thank you to our colleagues who gave their time, energy, and enthusiasm to these projects. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far and look forward to making an even bigger impact as we continue our challenge.
Stay tuned for more updates on our journey, and if you’d like to get involved in volunteering, we highly encourage you to reach out to these amazing charities. Together, through local community support, we can make a difference!
